Frisbie Memorial Hospital today announced the expansion of its clinical affiliation with Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Mass., to include cancer care. Lahey and Frisbie Memorial already have a successful urology affiliation and now, patients in the greater Rochester community, will also have access to more comprehensive cancer care, close to home.
Frisbie Memorial will make a formal announcement of the newly expanded clinical affiliation on October 2, 2012, during the Lahey Clinic - Frisbie Memorial Hospital Affiliation Luncheon. Lahey Clinic President & CEO, Howard Grant, JD, MD, will address Frisbie Memorial physicians and Board of Trustees on health care reform, the state of today's health care landscape and the benefits of developing long-standing affiliations with community hospitals.
This newest clinical affiliation demonstrates Frisbie Memorial's commitment to providing comprehensive and expert medical care to patients in its community. The Center for Cancer Care is comprised of a multidisciplinary team of specialists working together to provide innovative care to patients. Frisbie Memorial's oncologists will have access to Lahey Clinic's advanced clinical training opportunities and participate on Lahey Clinic's Tumor Boards, which will afford direct access to oncologic specialists during patient case reviews. With the recommendation of Frisbie Memorial's oncologists, patients will also have access to Lahey clinical trials, which evaluate new and innovative cancer treatments.
The Commission on Cancer (COC) of the American College of Surgeons granted Lahey its Outstanding Achievement Award in 2012. Lahey is one of a select group of 106 currently accredited and newly accredited camcer programs across the nation to receive this award, and is the only program in New England to receive it for the past three consecutive surveys. Also, U.S. News and World Report
