April 13, 2017

Frisbie Memorial Hospital is pleased to announce that it has received an “A” rating for Safety in The Leapfrog Group’s Spring 2017 Hospital Safety Score for the third consecutive time. Hospitals that repeatedly earn an “A” for safety, like Frisbie Memorial Hospital, are in elite company. Not only has Frisbie achieved the nation’s top honor for patient safety, but it has sustained that performance over time.

The Leapfrog Group is an independent nonprofit organization committed to driving quality, safety, and transparency in the U.S. healthcare system. The Hospital Safety Score program grades hospitals on overall performance in keeping patients safe from preventable harm and medical errors and is becoming the gold standard measure in patient safety. Hospitals are rated on how they perform in 28 measures relating to Infections, Problems with Surgery, Practices to Prevent Errors, Safety Problems, and Doctors, Nurses, and Hospital Staff. Hospitals that earn an “A” rating, like Frisbie Memorial Hospital, have in place strict protocols to prevent patient injuries, such as surgical safety checklists and fall prevention initiatives, and perform above average overall in keeping patients safe compared to those receiving a “B” rating or lower.

“We are very pleased to have received an “A” rating for patient safety. Frisbie leadership and clinical staff are diligent in its efforts to raise awareness of patient safety risks. We have numerous initiatives in place to keep patients safe, including assessing and then documenting upon admission any potential risk for falls, self harm, and skin breakdown; we reduce the opportunity for harm. We follow strict hand hygiene protocols, which keep infection rates low. We also utilize a surgical safety checklist, which adds a layer to patient safety by double checking / verifying information,” said Jean Corvinus, Director of Quality and Patient Safety at Frisbie Memorial Hospital.

Frisbie Memorial Hospital was recently honored with the 2017 Women’s Choice Award as one of America’s Best Hospitals for Patient Safety. The distinguished designation identifies the country’s best hospitals based on robust criteria that consider patient satisfaction, clinical performance, patient recommendation rating, and what women say they want from a hospital.
