Frisbie recognized for its organ donation campaign
June 19, 2017
New England Donor Service recently presented Frisbie Memorial Hospital with the Bronze Recognition National Hospital Organ Donation Campaign award for its efforts in cultivating a culture that encourages hospital staff and community members to enroll in the state registry as organ, eye, and tissue donors. Frisbie is one of 150 hospitals in New England to partner with the New England Organ Bank (NEOB). Partner hospitals help to ensure that each potential donor family has the opportunity for a thoughtful discussion about donation and that the final wishes for designated donors are honored.
According to the New England Organ Bank, there are more than 120,000 people in the U.S. waiting for a life-saving organ transplant. Every 12 minutes another name is added to the national waiting list and on average 22 people die each day waiting for their transplant. A single organ donor can save as many as eight lives.
