The Geropsychiatry Services Department (GPU) provides mental health resources for inpatient and outpatient adults, age 65 and older. We accept referrals from many sources, including families, health care providers, social service/home care agencies, mental health centers, and nursing homes.
The hospital's 10-bed inpatient Geriatric Psychiatry Unit cares for seniors who are struggling with psychiatric challenges, including dementia and Alzheimer's disease. The team is comprised of geriatric psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, and therapists working together to help these patients live as comfortably as possible.
Inpatient Visiting Hours: Visitors are asked to come on weekdays from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., and on weekends from 1 to 8 p.m. Exceptions are made based upon special needs of patients or their families. Please discuss your needs with the nurse when your loved one is admitted. When entering, visitors are asked to report to the nursing station.
In addition, the psychiatric team at Frisbie Memorial Hospital is also available to see older adults who are best served by outpatient treatment — whether through medication, cognitive therapy, and/or psychotherapy. Our physicians see patients at the contracted facilities listed below as well as at the hospital. Patients may be referred by their primary care provider or may self-refer.
