The staff in our nationally accredited Vascular Lab use ultrasound to evaluate the blood vessels of the body in order to determine if there are areas of dilatation, narrowing or blockage. The vessels most frequently examined are in the legs, arm and neck.
Ultrasound is a noninvasive diagnostic technique which uses sound waves – not radiation – to create images of body organs, tissues and structures. Specifically-trained physicians interpret these images to complete the diagnostic process and report the results to the ordering provider.
The Vascular Surgeons in our Interventional Radiology Lab perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures that offer the option of a less-invasive, catheter-based alternative to surgery. Procedures performed include:
- Diagnostic arteriograms (to evaluate arteries)
- Diagnostic venograms (to evaluate veins)
- Angioplasty and stenting (to reopen blocked arteries)
- Dialysis access
