What is Registration?
Registration is a process in which you check in at a specific registration desk each time you arrive for hospital services. This process ensures that your demographic and insurance information for each appointment is complete and accurate

Do I have to stop at the registration desk every time I visit the hospital?
Not always. Many services are scheduled for patients in advance, and these appointments are often pre-registered. If you are pre-registered for services, you do not need to stop at registration. You can go directly to the department in which you are scheduled for treatment.

Do I need to arrive early for my scheduled procedure?
Yes. Please come approximately 15 to 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment. Specific departments will advise you on arrival times if it is outside the normal 15 to 30 minutes prior to your appointment.

Will I have to sign anything?
Yes. You will be asked to sign a form that allows us to release information to your insurance company, and another form, which acknowledges your receipt of the FMH Notice of Privacy Practices (NPP). www.HIPAA.gov

Do I have to make a payment before I receive services?
You may be asked to make a payment based on your insurance company's co-pay, deductible, and/or co-insurance, depending on the type of hospital procedure.

What time should I arrive for surgery?
Please consult with your physician/surgeon for hospital arrival/surgery time.

Should I eat or drink prior to surgery, tests or procedures?
Please consult with your physician/surgeon regarding eating and drinking medical restrictions. If their orders are not followed as directed, this could result in surgery, tests or procedures being delayed or canceled.

Should I bring my insurance card with me to the hospital?
The information on your insurance card is needed for the hospital to file a claim with your insurance company or companies. Each time you register we will ask for your insurance coverage information.

I gave my insurance information to my doctor, why doesn't the hospital have it?
Some physicians are independent contractors to the hospital who maintain their own patient information. Also, your benefit coverage may be different for a physician than it is for hospital services. For these reasons, physicians and the hospitals retain separate insurance information.

What is pre-certification and how does it happen?
Pre-certification, a critical element to ensure proper payment of services, means getting approval from the insurance company for patient services prior to treatment. For surgical cases, and for certain radiology procedures, your provider's office is responsible for obtaining pre-certification. They will communicate the medical necessity for the procedure. It is advisable for the patient to follow up with their doctor to ensure that this process has occurred. Failure to have a surgery, medical test or procedure pre-certification could result in reduced or denied benefits by the insurance carrier.

How is a wheelchair obtained when a patient arrives at the hospital?
Wheelchairs can be requested at the lobby information desk and/or at registration check-in.

What can I expect during my hospital stay?
Our Patient Information Guide provides valuable information on what you can expect during a hospital stay.

What items should you not bring to the hospital?
For your protection, you should not bring jewelry, credit cards or large amounts of cash to the hospital. If this occurs, the patient will be requested to send items home as soon as possible. Until such an arrangement is made, valuables may be stored in the hospital safe, but Frisbie Memorial Hospital does not assume responsibility for lost items.

Will I have instructions to take home?
After you are discharged, instructions will be provided regarding further care, medication and post-op follow-up according to the physician/surgeon's orders.
