The general surgeons at Surgical Associates of Rochester provide a wide range of services, from minor office procedures to major surgery, done with both laparoscopic and open techniques, for adult and pediatric patients. These include:

Comprehensive surgical cancer treatment, close to home
The general surgeons utilize the latest technology to perform state-of-the-art surgery for breast cancer, colon cancer, melanoma, soft tissue tumors, and thyroid cancers. They have expertise in minimally invasive diagnostic procedures, such as stereotactic and ultrasound-guided biopsies for breast disease, and sentinel lymph node biopsy for breast cancer and melanoma.They also perform complex laparoscopic colon surgery to treat colorectal cancer and other diseases, such as diverticulitis. 

The general surgeons work closely with a team of oncology physicians and health professionals who specialize in caring for cancer patients and family.

Procedures performed in the office
Many procedures can be performed in the minor procedure rooms at the Surgical Associates of Rochester office. This provides a more convenient and patient-friendly experience without the need for hospitalization. These procedures include vasectomies, mole removal, abscess drainage, and biopsies of the breast, skin and thyroid.

           

John Britton, MD, FACS
Dr. Britton earned his medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School in Hanover, New Hampshire, and completed his residency in General Surgery at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery, and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.  

Mark Elias, MD, FACS
Dr. Elias earned his medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine, and completed his residency in General Surgery at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery, and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. 

Tamsin Durand, MD, MPH, FACS
Dr. Durand earned her medical degree and Masters in  from St. George's University in Grenada, West Indies and completed her residency in General Surgery at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina. She is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Timothy Sherry, MD, FACS
Dr. Sherry earned his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University Medical School in Cleveland, Ohio and completed his residency in General Surgery at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
