Frisbie Memorial Hospital’s Speech Language Pathology Department is now offering High-Resolution Pharyngeal Manometry (HRPM) therapy to diagnose and treat oropharyngeal dysphagia, which is a prevalent and potentially challenging condition to diagnose. Left untreated, dysphagia can lead to weight loss, pneumonia, or even death.
Research has shown that HRPM can be a powerful biofeedback tool for both clinician and individual. HRPM allows individuals to visualize the swallowing process, providing real-time assessment for the clinician to more accurately evaluate the condition, which will aid in the development of a proper treatment plan and optimal outcome for the individual.
A provider referral for Speech Therapy is required. The referral needs to include the diagnosis and specify High-Resolution Pharyngeal Manometry (HRPM) with Speech Therapy services. The referral can be faxed to Rehabilitation Services at (603) 330-8949.
