VitalStim Therapy

VitalStim® Therapy System is a non-invasive therapy for treating dysphagia. The technique involves administering small, electrical impulses to the swallowing muscles in the front of the neck using small electrodes that attach to the skin.

The speech therapist will evaluate the individual to determine which muscles would benefit from this procedure. The individual will need to complete a modified barium swallow study before the VitalStim Therapy System, which stimulates motor nerves in the throat, increases muscle strength, and increases the effectiveness of the exercise therapy.

The VitalStim Therapy System is approved by the Food and Drug Administration. It must be prescribed by a physician and can only be administered by a VitalStim certified therapist.
